Exciting 2017 programs announced!

KidsACT enrollment for 2017 Spring Musical Classes and Summer Musical Theater Camps is now open. All camps and performances take place at the Valley Players Theater on Rt. 100, Waitsfield.

KidsACT Spring Musical: Seussical!

Students in grades 1-6 will learn stage movement, character development, and strengthen musical skills to present a 30-minute version of the popular musical Suessical. Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat and many other favorite Dr. Seuss characters spring to life onstage in this fantastical musical extravaganza! Transporting audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos, including Jojo, a Who child, who gets in trouble for thinking too many “thinks.” Horton’s challenge is twofold – not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must also guard an abandoned egg that’s been left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant!

Classes for students in grades 1-3 will take place Thursdays from 3:00-4:00pm and Saturdays from 9:30-10:30am starting March 9. Classes for students in grades 4-6 will take place Thursdays from 4:00-5:30pm and Saturdays 10:30am-12:00pm, also starting March 9. All students will have class together on Saturday, May 13 from 9:30am to 12:00pm, and on Thursday, May 18, from 3:00-5:00pm. The performance will take place on Thursday, May 18 at 5:00 pm.

Tuition is $125 for students in grades 1-3, and $175 for students in grades 4-6. A $25 discount will be given if enrolled and paid by February 1. Sibling discounts are also available. A limited number of partial financial-need scholarships are available from the Valley Players.

Theater games, stage movement, singing, and acting will all come together for students to perform the short musical play Lemonade. In the play, Chicken Little, the Three Little Pigs, Humpty Dumpty, the Cat with a fiddle, Little Bo Peep, Little Boy Blue and a host of other nursery rhyme characters are having a Very Bad Day until Mother Goose arrives to show them how to make the best out of life’s ups and downs. This clever 20-minute musical features 5 original songs in a variety of musical styles, and is a good introduction for first time theater students.

Tuition: $125. A $25 discount will be given if enrolled and paid by May 1. Sibling discounts are also available. A limited number of partial financial-need scholarships are available from the Valley Players.

Session 2 is for students entering grades 3-6 in the fall of 2017, and will take place July 31-August 4 from 10am to 3 pm daily. The performance will be at 6:30 pm on August 4. On their journey, the two meet a sinister snake named Kaa, a herd of elephants and a giant bear named Baloo, who teaches them the swingin’ musical rhythms of the jungle. After surviving a dangerous encounter with a band of monkeys led by King Louie, Mowgli and Bagheera are forced to run for their lives. When Shere Khan returns, our heroes must rally their fellow animals into battle and restore peace throughout the jungle.

Tuition: $225. A $25 discount will be given if enrolled and paid by May 1. Sibling discounts are also available. A limited number of partial financial-need scholarships are available from the Valley Players.

2016 KidsACT Holiday Play – Classes start October 26!

“The Lights of Jingle Bell Hill” by John Jacobson and Mac Huff

Directed by Ruth Ann Pattee

All classes and performance take place at the Valley Players Theater, 4254 Main Street, Waitsfield

Every town that celebrates Christmas seems to have at least one street that takes it all joyfully over-the-top in its quest to display its spirit in decoration and light. The same is true for the North Pole, in the village that is the home of Santa Claus. The citizens of that village are, of course, elves, reindeer, toys, and snow people. When the Bright family moves to Jingle Bell Hill, they are a little intimidated by the contest to win “The Best Decorated Neighborhood” Award. There is one house on Jingle Bell Hill that is without lights, decoration, and holiday spirit, and that causes the neighborhood to lose the contest every year. Together, the residents help their neighbor re-discover the joy in coming together as a community to celebrate the wonder of the season.

This musical features six original songs and over 30 speaking parts for lots of on stage opportunities! Classes for students in grades 1-3 will be on Wednesdays from 3:00-4:00pm and Saturdays from 9:30-10:30am. Classes for students in grades 4-6 will be on Wednesdays from 4:00-5:00pm and Saturdays from 10:30-11:30am. Classes will rehearse separately until December 7, when we’ll put it all together for the show on December 17 at 4 pm.

Tuition is $125 per student. $25 early registration discount if registered and paid by October 1. $10 sibling discount per child. Partial scholarships are available from the Valley Players. To register, go to kidsactvt.com or call 802-793-4220.
