About KidsACT

KidsACT was founded in 1998 at the Valley Players Theater in Waitsfield, Vermont. Director Ruth Ann Pattee was looking for theater programs for her kids, who were 7 and 10 years old at the time, but she found no extra curricular programs available locally. Using her college theater education and experience,  she decided to start her own company for children’s theater, and KidsACT was born.

The KidsACT Mission

Our mission is to offer students an all-around theater education, based on their age and experience. We keep it affordable to families of all income levels. And we have fun…lots and lots of fun!

The KidsACT Experience

KidsACT camps and classes offer students the opportunity to experience being in a play from beginning to end, including making sets, props, and costumes; acting, singing and dancing; even creating posters and flyers for publicity. Technical skills such as lighting and set design may be taught to older students with an interest. All classes and camps result in a free performance, open to the community. Partial scholarships are available, thanks to the generous support of the Valley Players Community Theater group.

Ruth Ann Pattee studied Theater Arts at East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania, and has worked with Vermont schools and community groups for over 15 years directing musical and non-musical plays. In addition to KidsACT, Ruth Ann directs theater residencies in area elementary schools and the fall play for high school students at Harwood Union High School. She is also a published playwright with the Pioneer Drama Service, and has enjoyed performing in shows with the Valley Players, Stowe Theater Guild, the Barre Players, Unadilla Theater, the Middlebury Community Players, Cafe Noir, and the Essex Community Players.
